Heavy Traffic Expected This Week for Orientation

Faculty and staff should expect heavier traffic on and around campus on Tuesday, Aug. 18, and Wednesday, Aug. 19, as incoming students and their families arrive for the first two days of Orientation. Please allow additional travel time when coming to campus.

Chapman Alumna Begins a New Chapter in Her Career

Jenny Howard (MFA ’15), a creative writing instructor at Chapman, released her debut middle-grade novel, Transylvania County, on July 21 through Macmillan. The novel follows a young protagonist learning to challenge others’ expectations and rewrite his own story.

Chapman Professor Elected to Engineering Education Board

Douglas Havard, Ph.D., assistant professor in Attallah College and Fowler School of Engineering, was elected to the Pacific Southwest Section Executive Board of the American Society for Engineering Education, where he will help advance engineering education across the region.

Using Science to Build Lasting Community Connections

Mo Hijazi teaching students in the STEM in Action course
Chapman students in the “STEM in Action” course spend Friday afternoons at Higher Ground Youth and Family Services, bringing hands-on science activities and mentorship to local K-12 students. By returning each week, they’re doing more than teaching STEM — they’re building meaningful relationships while showing young learners that they belong in these spaces.
