Welcoming Quaylan Allen as Faculty Ombudsperson

Dear Faculty,

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Quaylan Allen as Faculty Ombudsperson at Chapman University.

Dr. Allen is a Professor in the Donna Ford Attallah College of Educational Studies, where he primarily teaches in undergraduate programs and also serves on the faculty of the Ph.D. in Education programs. He earned his doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies, with an emphasis on Social and Philosophical Foundations of Education, from Arizona State University.

A dedicated scholar and educator, Dr. Allen’s research and practice focus on educational equity, racial justice, and improving outcomes for culturally diverse communities. His scholarship has been published in leading academic journals, and he serves on the editorial boards of Urban Education and Gender & Education.

Dr. Allen brings extensive experience in both academic and administrative leadership. He previously served as Director of First-Generation Programs in the Office of the Provost and was the founding director of the Africana Studies minor. His work across faculty governance and university-wide initiatives reflects a strong commitment to collaboration, discretion, and thoughtful engagement across diverse campus constituencies.

The position of Faculty Ombudsperson is critically important to fostering a healthy, collaborative, and inclusive campus environment. Serving as an independent, confidential, neutral, and informal resource, the Ombudsperson provides guidance in resolving concerns, navigating conflicts, and addressing workplace challenges. This role ensures that faculty have a safe and supportive space to voice concerns and explore options for resolution without fear of retaliation or bias.

Dr. Allen’s professional experience and longstanding commitment to equity and inclusion position him exceptionally well to serve in this capacity. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a deep commitment to fostering a respectful campus environment, with an approach grounded in integrity, fairness, careful listening, and respect for multiple perspectives, qualities that closely align with the core principles of the Ombuds role. I am confident that he will provide exceptional service in this vital role.

I would also like to take this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude to Dr. Frank Frisch, who has served as Ombudsperson with great dedication and integrity. He has earned the trust and respect of the campus community through his thoughtful approach, active listening, and strong commitment to fairness. Over his 43-year career at Chapman, he has held significant leadership roles and has been instrumental in promoting a supportive and equitable campus environment.

Dr. Allen will begin his new role today, April 15, 2026, and can be reached at (714) 628-2752 or qallen@chapman.edu. Please join me in welcoming him to this important position and in expressing our appreciation to Dr. Frisch for his outstanding service.

Sincerely,

Mike Ibba
