The U.S. News & World Report rankings of national universities placed Chapman at No. 100 today—the best ranking in Chapman history and yet another indicator of the university’s incredible upward momentum.
Chapman debuted in the national rankings at No. 125 in 2019, the year the university became an R2 research institution. Before that, Chapman climbed from No. 61 to No. 5 just among regional colleges and universities in the western United States.
“Our focus is and always has been on our mission, not our rankings, but our approach has led to this moment,” said President Matt Parlow.
In a message to Chapman faculty and staff, Parlow credited Presidents Emeriti Jim Doti and Daniele Struppa for leading and catalyzing Chapman’s progress with a steady focus on student success and academic excellence. He also thanked employees past and present for the daily effort that is ultimately reflected in student outcomes and alumni achievements.
“The quality of work – day in, day out, year after year – is reflected in an upward trend line that matters. Indeed, the trend line is more significant than the actual number because we all know that rankings can fluctuate from year to year. But our trajectory is strong and indisputable,” Parlow said.
U.S. News ranked Chapman 55th among private colleges with gains for Chapman in its rankings for social mobility and the best colleges for veterans. A new ranking for undergraduate teaching programs also placed Chapman at No. 39 nationally.
